Meet Sheryl

I’m Sheryl, a self-taught home cook. My focus is on bringing people together through food. I aim to make cooking approachable, inspiring, and offer strategies to make your time in the kitchen a little easier along the way. I have been documenting and sharing the dishes I prepare on this platform. I draw inspiration from everything food: famous chefs, friends, quiet family meals, generous entertaining, and culinary traditions from around the world. The food I share are recipes that my friends and family genuinely enjoy - one recipe at at time. Here in this newsletter, I hope to help you discover new dishes, build confidence in the kitchen, and truly enjoy the process of creating meals.

Just really good recipes began as a virtual cookbook for my children when one of my sons left home for university. He is now a 3-hour plane ride away. This Substack was my way to give him a virtual hug, a way for him to have that familiar taste of home. ‘Just really good recipes’ has since grown into a global gathering of food lovers - at the time I am writing this in August of 2025, over 83 countries subscribe… How cool is that!
